60,000 flock to day 1 of Scottish International Airshow 2018 in Ayr

An incredible 60,000 people came to the Low Green in Ayr today to enjoy spectacular flying displays, interactive STEM (science, technology, engineering, maths) exhibitions, military and aviation ground displays, and fun fairground rides as the Scottish International Airshow 2018 got underway.

A rescue demo from HM Coastguard and RNLI kicked things off in style, while a breathtaking performance from the RAF Red Arrows brought the first day of the event to a close. Exciting aerobatic displays and aircraft flypasts - including the inaugural Scottish International Airshow performance for the Swiss Classic Formation - delivered a packed programme that delighted the crowds.

Day two on Sunday 2 September offers more of the same, with the event site opening at 10am and flying getting underway from 11am. The event will close with another colourful flying show from the Red Arrows.

Rail services will be operating from Glasgow Central to Ayr at their usual Sunday times (although there will be less carriages than usual). Airshow car parking is also available by following the dedicated car park signs.
