A dashing day as Santa and his reindeer came to Kilmarnock!

Fun runners and shoppers had a dashing day last Saturday as Santa and his reindeer popped into Kilmarnock Town Centre. Taking time out from his busy schedule, he brought his sleigh into King Street to cheer on the brave souls who’d donned their antlers and run 3k from the Howard Park in aid of Ayrshire Cancer Support.

Two lucky Shortlees Primary pupils, Sophie O’Neil and Skye Tiller, got an extra treat as they rode up and down King Street with Santa in his sleigh. They’d been picked for the special Christmas joyride by Centrestage.

Town Centre Manager Fiona Nicolson, who arranged the day as part of a programme of Christmas events said: “It was a magical day and a really special treat for Sophie and Skye to meet the man himself and get to ride with him in his sleigh. A great way to start off the Christmas season and we are thrilled Santa chose Kilmarnock again to visit with his stunning reindeer. Hope he comes back next year!”

The yuletide fun doesn’t end there though. This Sunday, 27 November sees the Christmas Lights Switch On – with a packed programme of entertainment on stages in both King Street and Bank Street, Christmas stalls, kids entertainment and street theatre. The fun kicks off at 1.00pm with the opening of the market. The music, provided by talented local musicians, community groups and choirs starts at 2.00pm and the afternoon culminates with the lights switch on at 5.00pm.
