Resurfacing works to continue this weekend

A programme of work to resurface the A78 between Sharphill and Pennyburn Roundabouts, which was postponed late last year, will re-commence on Friday 13 January 2017.

Weather permitting Scotland TranServ on behalf of Transport Scotland will carry out the works on the southbound carriageway over one weekend.

To protect the safety of our workforce and road users, a total closure of the A78 southbound between Sharphill and Pennyburn Roundabouts will be in place continuously, from 8.00pm on Friday 13 January, until 6.00am on Monday 16 January. The northbound carriageway will remain open throughout the works.

A local diversion route will be in place via Eglington Road (A738) and High Road (A738). This route is suitable for all vehicles except abnormal loads.

Andy Fraser, operating company representative for Scotland TranServ said:

“This essential maintenance scheme will be carried out to improve the road surface on this section of the A78.

“We understand the importance of this route as a vital link between Ayrshire and Inverclyde and are committed to maintaining this route to support neighbouring communities and the local economy for years to come.”
