Ardrossan coastguard team called out to a washed up boat in Saltcoats

The Ardrossan Coastguard Rescue Team was called out shortly after 6.30pm this evening following a report to Police Scotland of a white boat washed up within Saltcoats Harbour.

The team responded immediately and on arrival, located the boat in question which was badly damaged and is believed to have been within the harbour for several days.

Given the condition of the boat and remnants of a trailer also located nearby, we are confident there's no persons outstanding or at risk and the boat has been intentionally abandoned within the harbour.

To mitigate the risk of further callouts, the team successfully recovered the boat from the shoreline with the local authority being contacted to arrange removal. We have placed Coastguard tape on the boat to identify to the public the Coastguard is aware and there's no requirement to make any further calls.

In this instance, the report initially went to Police Scotland via their online 'Contact Us' website form. We continue to urge the public to dial 999 and ask for the Coastguard for incidents similar to this at the coast to ensure a swift and efficient response to a possible maritime emergency.

Search and Rescue - it's what we do.

In a coastal, beach or cliff emergency dial 999 and ask for the Coastguard.
