Ayr care home gives the gift of kindness to families this Christmas

An Ayr care home is spreading festive cheer by donating to a local Christmas gifting charity.

Greenan Manor, operated by Meallmore Ltd, has donated £500 to Night Before Christmas Charity (NB4CC), which supplies Christmas gifts to local children living in poverty. Now in its sixth year, NB4CC provides families in Ayrshire with individual presents as well as Night Before Christmas boxes. The boxes, which are to be opened on Christmas Eve, are filled with goodies such as pyjamas, hot chocolate and teddy bears. When the charity started in 2015, it distributed 90 boxes to children in poverty. Last year, thanks to generous donations and support, NB4CC was able to issue 4,000 boxes. Staff at Greenan Manor were inspired to make the donation after partnering with Doonfoot Primary School to host a series of outdoor treasure hunts for the pupils in the home’s garden and surrounding grounds. Elaine Hughes, Care Home Manager at Greenan Manor, commented: “The activities we carried out with pupils from Doonfoot Primary School gave us the idea to support families in our local community this Christmas. “The pandemic had a profound effect on many local families and so we’re proud to extend our support to those who need it the most. We hope our donation to NB4CC brings some Christmas joy to families who struggle over the festive season.” Jodie McFarlane, Co-Founder of NB4CC, said: “Sadly 1 in 5 children live in poverty in Scotland, including around 16,500 children in Ayrshire. Christmas is the most wonderful time of the year for many, but unfortunately some children aren’t as lucky as others. We believe that no family should go without a Christmas, and with donations like the one from Greenan Manor, we can help more families across the region by delivering presents to less fortunate children. “On behalf of all of our volunteers at Night Before Christmas, we would like to thank Greenan Manor for their generous donation, which will help to deliver hope to families this Christmas.” In addition to the company donation, Greenan Manor is gathering contributions for the charity over the festive period. Local people are invited to leave gifts in the reception of Greenan Manor, 2 Tiree Ave, KA7 4GH, or donate through the charity’s Facebook page. Greenan Manor is run by Meallmore Ltd and provides excellent standards of care for its residents, including those living with dementia.
