Burst Sewage Pipe Along River Ayr Leads to Gridlock in Ayr Town

A burst sewage pipe at the River Ayr is the cause of this afternoon's gridlock in Ayr town, according to Scottish Water.

The section of pipe between Fort St and New Bridge St burst this morning, resulting in repair teams closing the section of road to fix the damage.

The closure of the road had caused traffic to come to a standstill in the town, with diversions being put in place along Ayr seafront. This has led to frustration among some road users, with some describing the gridlock as the worst the town has ever experienced.

The section of road is expected to remain closed tomorrow and Sunday, so delays around Ayr are expected tomorrow afternoon. Scottish Water apologies for the inconvenience caused and are working to repair the damaged pipe as soon as possible.
