Ayrshire Businesses Join Forces on Journey to Net Zero

Businesses across North Ayrshire are uniting to tackle climate change through the Net Zero Accelerator, a year-long programme designed to help small and medium-sized enterprises reduce their carbon emissions and adopt sustainable practices.
Delivered by North Ayrshire Council in partnership with Net Zero Nation and part-funded by Zero Waste Scotland, the initiative offers workshops, carbon-accounting tools, and one-to-one support to help firms cut their carbon footprint and prepare for future green regulations.

Local businesses have praised the scheme for its practical and collaborative approach. Jack’s Alt Stays on Millport used the programme to complete a third-party carbon audit and explore greener solutions such as rainwater harvesting and onsite food growing. SimpsInns Group, based in Irvine, reported major progress too, installing solar panels, investing in e-bikes, and reviewing its use of gas-powered kitchen equipment.
Councillor Tony Gurney, Cabinet Member for Green Environment and Economy, said: “Many businesses are keen to progress but unsure where to start. This programme gives them the knowledge and confidence to take action together.”
The Council continues to offer tailored advice, feasibility studies, and funding guidance to help more local firms embrace a sustainable future.
