AYRSHIRE COLLEGE OFFERS FREE SOUP TO ALL STUDENTS

Following a successful trial period in January during the College’s Promoting Wellbeing Group’s ‘New Year, New You’ campaign, the College has now been successful in securing a free soup initiative which will run for two years, with an evaluation being taken at the end of year one. The initiative will be available to all students across the campuses, by offering a homemade soup, a dinner roll, and a smile.

The College believes that by providing students with a warm and nutritious meal each day, this will assist them in their efforts towards learning.

The initiative has been funded by the Ayrshire College Foundation, who have provided support for a predicted uptake of around 700 soup portions per week to the students of Ayrshire College.

Students can claim their free soup and dinner roll, by presenting their valid student card to a member of the canteen staff during lunchtime from Monday through to Friday.

Peter Bacchetti, Catering Services Manager at Ayrshire College said, “I am absolutely delighted that the Ayrshire College Foundation have been able to support us with the Soup initiative. It’s of the upmost importance that we continue to try new approaches to help achieve successful outcomes for our Ayrshire College students. By being able to provide our learners with a freshly made soup each day, I’m hopeful that it should set them up for a healthy start on their journey of study.”

“The soup initiative has gone a further step again though, by introducing a recipe card stand located at each of our soup counters. The idea behind this is to give learners the opportunity to then go home and make some of their favourite soups for not only themselves, but for their family members and friends to enjoy outside of the College as well.”
