Ayrshire set to benefit from part of the £73m SPT investment budget!

SPT is set to deliver more than £73 million worth of infrastructure projects in the Strathclyde region over the next financial year 2018/19. 


Each of the 12 Local Authorities in the Strathclyde area will benefit from SPT’s Capital Budget.


SPT’s Capital Plan over the next three years including the Capital Budget for 2018/19 has been approved by the SPT partnership.


SPT Chair Martin Bartos said:


“SPT plays an important role across the west of Scotland investing in good quality transport infrastructure for the benefit of all.  We plan, deliver and maintain bus infrastructure, as well as supporting local authorities and other partners to deliver road safety projects, traffic management measurers, pedestrian and cycling infrastructure, improved access to public transport hubs and new rail stations.


“In the next financial year, we are investing more than £73million in projects that meet the objectives of the Regional Transport Strategy to improve safety, connectivity, accessibility and integration and reduce harmful emissions from transport.”


The Ayrshire projects include the following...


East Ayrshire


  • £750,000 towards a major road safety project on the A70 at Glenbuck


  • £245,000 towards improving Cumnock and Kilmarnock bus stations

North Ayrshire

  • £300,000 towards the Irvine Town Centre regeneration project


  • £200,000 in support of the £15.5 million Ardrossan Harbour Interchange project


South Ayrshire

  • £200,000 to improve local cycling routes to the National Cycle Network Route 7
