A brand new local food spot, Spudbuds, has been crowned Best Takeaway in Scotland, beating 17 other finalists from across the country.

Since opening, the Ayrshire-based business, which is operated by the same company who owns Ayrshire based restaurant chain 'Tempura' has been causing a serious buzz.

With its simple but cleverly delicious menu built around baked potatoes and chunky chips, customers can build their own in three (or four, if you're feeling like a super filling is needed) easy steps - starting with your base, adding your choice of flavoured butter (plain, garlic or Cajun), and then picking from classic fillings like Beans, Cheese, Bacon or Haggis, or going big with ‘super fillings’ like Chicken Tikka Curry, Mac & Cheese, Cajun Chicken Mayo, Chilli Con Carne, and more.

If you can’t decide, the house specials have you covered. Local legends already include:

  • The Filthy: Thai Chicken Curry, Cheese, Bacon, Thai Sauce, Crispy Onions

  • The Dirty: Pulled Pork, Mac & Cheese, Hot Honey, Spring Onions

  • The Belter: Haggis, Cheese, Bacon, Peppercorn Sauce, Crispy Onions

It's not just the food that’s getting attention - it’s the queues, too. Spudbuds has been selling out almost every day, often closing early due to demand. Social media has been flooded with praise, especially on TikTok, where customers are posting drool-worthy videos of the massive portions and loaded toppings.

The team behind Spudbuds, which only opened the beginning of March (2025), shared their excitement about the win, saying:

"We’re still completely in awe at winning Best Takeaway in Scotland last night. We’ve only been open for two months and to win such an award warms our spuds. Thank you"

With this award under their belt and no sign of slowing down, it looks like Spudbuds is only just getting started.
