A successful Biker Refinement event, run in partnership by the Ayrshire Roads Alliance and North Ayrshire Council, took place on Sunday 18 May at the Ayrshire College, Ayr Campus. The day offered motorcyclists the chance to sharpen their skills, boost confidence, and reinforce safe riding practices ahead of the summer season.

The event was delivered in collaboration with Police Scotland, IAM RoadSmart, and RoSPA, and included observed rides, slow manoeuvre sessions, and presentations from qualified instructors, many of whom are former police riders.

Councillor Bob Pollock, Portfolio Holder for Economic Development at South Ayrshire Council, attended the event and praised the day’s impact:

“We want to keep motorcycle riders and all road users as safe as possible, so this was a great opportunity to make even the most experienced riders aware of the latest road safety information. Thanks to everyone who came along and took part in what was a very informative and successful event.”

Councillor Jim McMahon, East Ayrshire Council's spokesperson for Housing, Transport and Communities, added:

“Events like this are a vital part of our collective approach to improving road safety across Ayrshire. By supporting motorcyclists with training and expert advice, we’re helping prevent accidents and promote responsible riding.”

Councillor Anthony Gurney, North Ayrshire Council spokesperson for Green Environment and Economy also commented:

“North Ayrshire Council is proud to support initiatives like Biker Refinement that combine practical skills with long-term road safety goals. These events improve rider confidence and contribute to our wider goals around safe and inclusive transport networks.”

The day encouraged open conversations about road safety and signposted riders to further opportunities for advanced training. It reaffirmed the importance of continuous learning for motorcyclists, while highlighting how partnership working across Ayrshire is helping improve road safety for everyone.
