Local MSP Siobhian Brown has told Ayrshire Daily News that the Boeing aircraft company are merging with Spirit Aerosystems but the Prestwick site is not included. It is very likely that the high quality aircraft parts manufacturing is secure but who will own the site is unclear.

Ms Brown said:

“I was alerted to developments at Sprit Aerosystems last week and have already raised the matter with the Scottish Government.”

“I was told early this morning that Spirit has agreed to merge with the Boeing Aircraft company and they have stated that certain sites will transfer ownership. Spirit at Prestwick manufactures for both Boeing and Airbus and at the moment I have been told that their plant at Prestwick will change ownership.”

“Many hundreds of my constituents work for Spirit at Prestwick and I am urgently seeking clarification of the immediate and medium-term plans for the Prestwick site.”

“I will be meeting this morning with Scott McLarty Senior Vice President Airbus & Business Jet Programs at Spirit AeroSystems to get clarity on the future of the Prestwick site.”
