South Ayrshire Council has just launched a scheme to encourage golfers to donate their unwanted clubs and golfing equipment.
The donated items will then be used by Golf South Ayrshire to encourage even more locals and visitors to take up the sport. Anyone taking equipment to the drop-off points at Belleisle Park, Dalmilling, Girvan, Maybole or Troon Links Golf Courses, will receive a voucher offering a 10% discount off their next purchase at Belleisle Park, Dalmilling or Troon Links Pro Shop. Once collected, the items such as clubs and golf bags can then be refurbished and made available for use on Council golf courses throughout South Ayrshire. Councillor Brian McGinley, Economic Development, Tourism and Leisure Portfolio Holder said: "We are very much committed to removing barriers to sport and encouraging people to get active. "We want as many people as possible to make use of our fantastic golf courses and facilities. This scheme is a great way for new golfers to have a go and build up their equipment gradually; I hope existing golfers really get behind the initiative, so we can continue to grow the sport in South Ayrshire." Ann Lang, Regional Schools and Community Officer for Scottish Golf said: "This initiative is designed to encourage more people of all ages to take up the great game of golf. "I'm sure golfers will have some old adult and junior clubs stored away that they no longer need so this is a great way to free up space in your garage, cupboard or attic. "One of Scottish Golf's strategic targets is for more women and young people to take up golf and I'm sure that reusing clubs will go a long way to help promote the game to the wider community."
