South Ayrshire Council recently launched the Winter Blue Health Calendar.

The Winter Blue Health Calendar completes the set of four seasonal blue health calendar brochures which have been created to inspire individuals to connect with water and enhance their health and wellbeing.

The free Winter Blue Health calendar, which is available in both online and paper format, was launched at an event held at Dolphin House Outdoor Education Centre. The Centre provided a stunning coastal location and enabled participants to take part in many activities, including walking, caving, art, nature identification and mindfulness.

The calendars serve as a monthly guide and offer a range of suggestions to explore water and interact with the impressive blue spaces that South Ayrshire has to offer, either in person or from the comfort of your own home. The seasonal Blue Health Calendars complement four seasonal Green Health Calendars, which launched last year and focus on connecting individuals with nature through exploring green spaces.  The development of these calendars was led by South Ayrshire Rangers Service. Our Rangers Service worked in collaboration with partners from across South Ayrshire who work in, care for and protect our amazing blue spaces. The project is part of wider work undertaken through the South Ayrshire Community Planning Partnership on green health and active living.

South Ayrshire Council’s Policy Lead for Housing and Property Services, Councillor Martin Kilbride, said: “Our Blue Health Calendars are a fantastic initiative that helps connect our communities with the breathtaking blue spaces we have right here on our doorstep in South Ayrshire. I would encourage everyone to pick up a copy or view the Winter calendar online to find out not only how nature can help improve our health, but how we can get involved in protecting the environment around us.

“The Blue Health Calendars provide a range of activities that can be enjoyed by people of all ages, either from the comfort of their own home or when out and about. The launch of the Winter calendar encourages people to enjoy the stillness of our landscapes during the colder weather.”
