Community councils in the Garnock Valley are calling on local residents to step forward and represent their towns and villages ahead of the fast-approaching election deadline.

Kilbirnie and Glengarnock Community Council – covering the town of Kilbirnie and the village of Glengarnock – and Beith and District Community Council – representing Beith along with Gateside and Barrmill – are set to hold their Ordinary Elections in line with the Scheme for the Establishment of Community Councils.
Both councils are appealing for new members, as well as the re-nomination of existing ones, to ensure continued local representation and community engagement.
Community councils are the most local tier of statutory representation in Scotland, acting as an important link between residents and public bodies such as North Ayrshire Council. They play a key role in gathering local opinion, representing community views to decision-makers, and often help organise community events and fundraising efforts.

Councillor Alan Hill, Cabinet Member for Communities, Housing and Islands, said:
“Community councils represent democracy at its grassroots. They are involved at the heart of Locality Partnerships to ensure that the priorities and work of community planning partners, community councils and the community are right for their local area, and everyone is working to achieve the same ambitions.
“So, if you want to be part of the action, why not nominate yourself and make a real difference in your area?”
Those interested in standing must be at least 16 years old and live within the relevant community council boundary. Nomination papers can be requested by emailing the Elections Team at elections@north-ayrshire.gov.uk or by calling 01294 324729.
Each nomination must include the name and address of the candidate, along with two proposers who are registered voters in the area. Forms must be signed by all three and submitted by 12 noon on Friday 7 November 2025.
Community councillors serve on a voluntary basis, but their contribution plays a vital role in shaping the future of their local area.
