At around 10.40pm on Saturday, 13 September, 2025, an accelerant was thrown at a property in Whiteford resulting in a fire.

A member of the public forced entry to the building and assisted a 21-year-old woman within. There were no injuries.
A male was seen running away from the scene, towards Assel Place, around the time of the incident. He is described as being in his late teens and was wearing dark-coloured clothing and a black baseball cap.
Detective Constable Stewart Gordon said: “Luckily no one was hurt but it could have had far worse consequences. This is a residential building with families living in it. The person responsible showed complete disregard for their safety by acting in such a reckless manner.
“We’ve conducted extensive enquiries however we’ve as yet been unable to identify the suspect.
“I’m appealing to the public for help to do that. Did you see someone matching the description in the area around the time? Or do you have any information which could help our investigation? No matter how significant you believe that information is, or if you think we’ll already know, please come forward and report it.”
Information can be passed through 101 quoting incident number 3595 of 13 September, 2025. Alternatively, Crimestoppers can be contacted anonymously on 0800 555 111.
