Children, staff and invited guests celebrated the start of work on the new extension to the Early Childhood Centre at Lainshaw Primary.
The modern single-storey extension, with its large picture windows, will provide bright, attractive learning and teaching accommodation for the little ones and their teachers.
Adjacent to the existing Early Childhood Centre, the new facility will provide specially designed accommodation for 2 year old children. The little ones will have their own entrance to the facility which will help them feel safe and secure within their new environment.
Councillor Stephanie Primrose, Cabinet Member for Skills and Learning, joined Councillor Douglas Reid, Leader of the Council, Provost Jim Todd, local members Councillors Eòghann MacColl and Ellen Freel and Councillor Maureen McKay at the school.
Cllr Primrose said: “Early Years and early intervention is an educational priority for the Council. Evidence shows that the attainment gap starts from just two years of age. That is why it is essential that we get it right, early for the little ones who attend our Early Childhood Centres.
“The extension to the Early Childhood Centre at Lainshaw Primary will provide facilities specially designed for two year olds. There will be a bright and airy playroom, a quiet room for when the wee ones need a rest and there will be toilet and nappy changing facilities. It has also been designed to include ample storage and a staff resource room.”
The state-of-the-art early learning and childcare space will be ready for use later this year.
