Extensive resurfacing works planned for Kilmarnock

The Ayrshire Roads Alliance, on behalf of East Ayrshire Council, will be carrying out essential resurfacing works in the coming weeks at seven locations within Kilmarnock and Crookedholm.



On Monday 23 July, work will start on Queens Drive, Kilmarnock at the retail park roundabout where 170 metres of road will be resurfaced.


The work will be carried out each evening from 19:00 and the road will reopen fully each morning at 05:00. It is anticipated that works will be completed by Thursday 26 July.


Two-way temporary traffic lights will be in place for the duration of the works and access to the retail park will be closed at this roundabout. Access to the retail park will be via the Victoria roundabout only.


On Tuesday 24 July, work will start on Queens Drive, Kilmarnock at Hurlford roundabout where 200 metres of road will be resurfaced

The work will be carried out each evening from 19:00 and the road will reopen fully each morning at 05:00. It is anticipated that works will be completed by Friday 27 July.


During the works there will be no access to Queens Drive from Bellfield Interchange, traffic will be diverted along the A77 to New Farm. Queens Drive will be closed from the Ayrshire Athletics Arena while Hurlford Road will be closed from Haining Avenue.


On Monday 30 July, work will start on London Road and Holehouse Road where 430 metres and 85 metres respectively will be resurfaced. During phase one Holehouse Road, from London Road to Wilson Avenue, will be closed until the works are completed on Friday 3 August.


London Road will have one lane closure and will only be open to westbound traffic, heading towards the town centre. There will be no access to London Road from Green Street.

During phase two, from Monday 6 August to Friday 10 August, there will be a full closure of London Road from London Gate to Green Street. Residents of Braehead Court will be able to access their homes from the Holehouse Road area of London Road.

Roads will reopen fully at 18:00 each day.


On Monday 13 August, work will start on Main Road, Crookedholm where 220 metres of road will be resurfaced.

The works will be carried out under temporary traffic lights from the railway bridge up to Cowan’s Row and will be completed by Wednesday 15 August.

On Monday 20 August, work will start on South Hamilton Street where 310 metres of road will be resurfaced.

South Hamilton Street will be closed from Portland Road junction to Dundonald Road junction. Access to and from Rugby Road will be possible from Dundonald Road.


A no waiting notice will be implemented to vehicles on South Hamilton Street from Rugby Road to Portland Road. South Hamilton Street will reopen at 18:00 each day.

The work is due to be completed by Friday 24 August.


On Monday 27 August, work will start on Welbeck Street at the junction with Lawson Street and New Mill Road where 170 metres will be resurfaced.

The works will be carried out on Welbeck Street under two-way temporary traffic lights. New Mill Road and Lawson Street will be closed to all traffic during the works and diversions will be in place. Roads will reopen fully at 18:00 each day.


The work is due to be completed by Friday 31 August.


Signage will be in place at each location in advance of the works and will confirm the road closures dates. The works are weather dependent and may be delayed or postponed at times due to adverse weather, the works will continue the next available day.
