Flooding update: Flash flooding hits parts of East Ayrshire

Due to the heavy rain we are currently responding to further requests for assistance in a number of communities. We have deployed sandbags in Auchinleck and Kilmaurs.

Some properties in Kilmaurs have been affected by floodwater and we have a fire engine and gullwagon onsite. We are continuing to retain a presence in Newmilns and are using the fire station as a base to respond to call outs in the north of East Ayrshire and to monitor. We have also deployed a team on the ground in the Cumnock area so that we can respond quickly to all communities across East Ayrshire. Thankfully water levels have receded in Newmilns. However further heavy rain is falling. We have deployed sandbags and protected properties and will continue to monitor the situation overnight. In Strath Crescent the road has been damaged. We are making it safe, putting up signage and clearing debris. We will carry out further repairs in the morning. Our mobile CCTV unit has been used tonight and we’ve been pleased to have the support of Scottish Fire and Rescue’s Ian McMeekin who has been working with us this evening at the Risk Management Centre. Main roads are open, but please proceed with caution. If you have any concerns, need sandbags or any help please call our Risk Management Centre on 03457240000 or 01563 5555555
