After several years in the planning and over a year in the build process, Sunday December 10th is the date we have all been waiting for.
With the replacement for our outgoing Mersey Class lifeboat 12-37 Silvia Burrell due at 13:23 marks a momentous occasion for not only Girvan Lifeboat, but the community and surrounding areas also. Some of our volunteer crew have already made several trips to RNLI HQ in Poole to carry out advanced training, whilst others have been completing additional training here at Girvan. Our volunteer crew make the journey South, Sunday (3rd December) to HQ where a further couple of days training will take place before they leave on Wednesday 6th to begin the 460 mile passage back home to Girvan, with the crew bringing 13-23 RNLB Elizabeth and Gertrude Allan home into Girvan on Sunday December 10th. The fun starts at 12pm with Tea, Coffee, stalls, BBQ entertainment and much more with music from Deja2 and others, character mascots from L.A Mascots and maybe even a special visitor in a red suit, and of course our own special guest Stormy Stan, with the arrival of the new boat at 13:23 to coincide with the boats hull number, there will be a demonstration of the new boat for all to see and subject to operational requirements a visit from HM Coastguard helicopter. We hope to have a good turnout from the community, and ask everyone from far and wide to help us celebrate the boats arrival, posters have been put up around town inviting the public, giving times and details, also invites have been sent to all the local schools to encourage all the kids to come along to help us celebrate and welcome our new boat home, further updates will be available from our facebook page and in local press.
