Part of Glasgow Central Station’s high-level platforms will reopen on Wednesday following disruption caused by a major fire on nearby Union Street.

Network Rail confirmed that a number of ScotRail and cross-border services will resume, with platforms seven to 15 on the west side of the station returning to use.

The station was affected after a fire broke out in a Union Street building last Sunday, spreading through the structure and forcing the closure of the high-level station. Low-level services resumed last week.

An exclusion zone remains in place around the fire-damaged building while demolition work continues. This includes areas covering Union Street, Gordon Street and Hope Street entrances to the station.

Passengers will access the station via low-level entrances and the Hope Street carriage driveway. Shops and facilities within the station will remain closed.

Services set to operate from Wednesday include routes between Glasgow Central and Ayr, Gourock, Wemyss Bay, Kilmarnock, East Kilbride and Lanark, with a mix of half-hourly and hourly timetables.

Passengers are being advised to check their journeys in advance due to ongoing timetable changes.

Demolition work on the damaged building is ongoing, with no confirmed timescale for completion.
