Heartbreak in Kilmarnock as Missing Dog Turns Out Not to Be Pomeranian ‘Bear’

There were emotional scenes in Kilmarnock this week after three stray dogs were found and rescued thanks to the swift action of the incredible team at Ayrshire Drone Dog Rescue.

Among the dogs recovered was a Pomeranian that looked strikingly similar to Bear, the much-loved companion who vanished from his Irvine back garden over six months ago, sparking a huge community search and a £35,000 reward for his safe return.

When contacted about the discovery, Bear’s owner told Ayrshire Daily News that he immediately rushed to Kilmarnock, his heart racing with hope that his ordeal was finally over.

“My heart was beating so fast and butterflies were in my stomach,” he said. “But sadly, although the dog was very similar, it was not Bear.”

Bear’s disappearance has touched hearts across Ayrshire and beyond. Since the day he went missing, Ayrshire Daily News has been supporting the search through ongoing appeals, radio broadcasts, and television coverage.

Bear’s owner described how the loss has deeply affected his life, not only because Bear was his pet, but because the small Pomeranian played a vital role in helping him manage anxiety and move forward from past struggles with alcohol.

Bear was his anxiety dog, he took me from a dark place and gave me clarity again.

“My life has been a nightmare since losing him,” he said. “I still pray that one day he’ll be reunited with me.”

The search for Bear continues, with the hope that this remarkable little dog will one day make it back home where he belongs.
