Kilwinning shop staff threatened with hammer as robbers demanded money

Police at Saltcoats are continuing enquiries following a robbery at a shop in Kilwinning on Saturday 27 May 2017. 


Around 1820 hrs on Saturday 27 May, two men aged 17 and 22 years were working within the RS McColl shop, West Doura Court, Kilwinning when a man came into the shop, threatened the staff members with a hammer and demanded money from them. The man then ran out of the shop with a three figure sum of cash leaving the staff uninjured but extremely distressed. The suspect is described as white, 5ft 10, stocky build and was wearing dark trousers and a black hooded top with the ‘McKenzie’ logo on it. Detective Sergeant Craig Semple at Saltcoats CID said: “I’d like to speak to anyone who may have seen the suspect hanging around the area prior to the robbery taking place or anyone who saw him running out of the shop afterwards.” Anyone with information should contact Saltcoats CID via 101 quoting incident number 4096 of 27 May. Alternatively calls can be made via Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 where anonymity can be maintained.
