Kyle street set to close as council deal with a dangerous building

The Council recently served a Dangerous Buildings Notice to the current owner of the former Royal Hotel at 5-11 Kyle Street, Ayr.

The dangerous building notice gave the owner 21 days to carry out work to make the building safe, however the owner failed to comply.

The Council has a statutory duty to protect the Public from dangerous buildings and given the location of the former hotel, situated on a busy street, initial safety works will begin to be carried out.

Works will take place on Sunday 18th August 2019, with a vehicle mounted crane being brought in to carry out an inspection of the building.

These works will see Kyle Street in Ayr closed to traffic on the Sunday from 7am to 7pm, with a diversion in place.

Access to Kyle Street Car Park will be affected during these works.

Pedestrian access to the street will be maintained via the Western footpath, which is on the opposite side of the road to the building.

The road will be reopened should works be completed earlier than planned. South Ayrshire Council said letters were issued to the affected businesses.
