A new report from Education Scotland, published on Tuesday 23 September, confirmed there will be no further visits following a successful follow-up inspection.

The latest findings come just over a year after inspectors set out areas for improvement in August 2024. On their return visit, inspectors spoke with pupils of all ages and worked closely with headteacher Kirsty Doncaster and her staff.

The report highlights strong progress in several key areas. These include increasing leadership opportunities for pupils, delivering more engaging and challenging lessons, and promoting health, wellbeing, equality and inclusion across the school. Inspectors also praised improvements in the consistency of assessments.

They described headteacher Ms Doncaster as having a “clear vision and ambition” for high quality learning, noting this was already having a positive impact on teaching. They also said staff had “more effective arrangements” in place to lead and influence change.

Education Scotland said they are confident Loanhead Primary will continue to improve, so no further inspection visits are needed.

Councillor Elaine Cowan, Spokesperson for Education, Children and Young People, welcomed the outcome. She said: “I was very pleased to read the most recent report from the HM Inspectors and note the significant improvements that have been achieved by Headteacher Kirsty Doncaster and her team. Well done to Kirsty Doncaster and the whole school on this very good report.”

Headteacher Ms Doncaster said the result was a “team effort.” She added: “The whole school is rightly proud of the report from our recent inspection, which shows strong progress against all points outlined by the inspectors last August. I would like to thank our dedicated staff who are wholly committed to ensuring that all of our children reach their full potential.”

The positive inspection report has been welcomed as a milestone achievement for the school, staff and pupils.
