Wullie Hogg is a familiar face around Ayr – whether it’s putting up fences, backing local businesses or tackling the problem of fly-tipping, he’s rarely out of the spotlight.

Now the man behind the popular “Wullie Weave” has confirmed he’s stepping into politics, announcing his bid to become councillor for Ayr North.
The well-known fencing sensation has built a huge following online, with more than 25,000 people tuning in to his mix of light-hearted videos and passionate campaigning.
His clips often give a glimpse into his working day but just as often highlight the issues that matter most to him, from cleaning up Ayrshire’s countryside to celebrating small local traders.
Wullie is also well known for lending his time and platform to local charities, regularly throwing his support behind good causes and fundraising efforts across the community.
In a video message shared on his WSH Fencing Facebook page, Wullie revealed he’ll be standing as an independent candidate in next month’s by-election.
Filmed outside County Buildings, he told supporters he is ready to take the next step: “There’s no kidding on now – the leaflets will be coming out and we’ll be out and about in the ward spreading the word. Stop and talk to me – come up and talk about your issues and let’s see if I can help you in any way.”
He added: “I’m your man and I’m hoping to win this on 16 October.”
With his trademark humour, straight-talking style and community-first approach, Wullie has already turned heads in the campaign.
Supporters say his energy, charity work, and connection with ordinary people could make him a powerful voice at council level.
The Ayr North by-election takes place on Wednesday, 16th October.
