A spell of rain, sleet and hill snow will move northeast on Saturday evening, this gradually turning to snow down to some lower levels.
Clearing skies later in the night will lead to ice developing on untreated roads, pavements and cycle paths. Some injuries from slips and falls are possible on icy surfaces.
Some roads and railways likely to be affected with longer journey times by road, bus and train services.
There is a small chance that some vehicles may become stranded and that some rural communities could become cut off.
Chief Forecaster's assessment
Rain and hill snow, is expected to arrive on Saturday evening, turning increasingly to snow at lower levels.
The heaviest snow will affect high ground of Southern Scotland, with 2-5 cm accumulating quite widely above 150 m, with 10 cm or more possible above 300 m in the Southern Uplands.
On the lowest ground, and in the Northeast, accumulations of 1-3 cm are possible. As skies clear from the west overnight into Sunday morning, ice is expected to form on any untreated surfaces while further wintry showers will follow to the west.
