Ayr police have initiated a murder investigation after a 41-year-old woman was found dead in a flat at Nursery Hall on Monday, 27 March, 2023.
Officers responded to the scene around 10:15 am, where the woman was pronounced dead.
A post-mortem examination conducted the following day led detectives from Police Scotland’s Major Investigation Team to treat the death as murder.
Detective Chief Inspector Peter Sharp is overseeing the extensive investigation, which includes door-to-door enquiries.
In a statement, DCI Sharp emphasised the importance of uncovering the circumstances surrounding the woman's death:
“Officers are working to find out the last time the deceased was seen and the circumstances leading up to her death. Anyone with information, no matter how insignificant it may seem, should contact us immediately. If you were in the area over the weekend and have dash-cam or private CCTV footage that could assist then please get in touch."
DCI Sharp also sought to reassure the local community, stating that officers are working diligently to apprehend the person responsible for the crime. Additional police patrols have been deployed in the area, and residents with concerns are encouraged to speak with officers.
