New redeployable CCTV cameras are being installed in priority areas across East Ayrshire to tackle environmental crime and improve community safety.

In May last year, Council agreed as part of the Strategic Review of Community Safety and Enforcement, to fund six new deployable cameras bringing the total across the area to 14.
The cameras are currently being installed in areas that have been identified in partnership with key stakeholders, taking account of feedback from residents and by analysing incident data. The main focus has been on crime prevention and areas where there have been higher levels of recurring environmental crime and anti-social behaviour.
Councillor Jim McMahon, Spokesperson for Housing, Transport and Communities was joined at Morton Place in Kilmarnock by Leader of the Council, Councillor Douglas Reid, Councillor Graham Barton, Councillor Linda Mabon and Councillor Neill Watts.
He said: “I am really pleased that the new cameras are starting to be installed in key locations across East Ayrshire. Morton Place in Kilmarnock experiences significant fly-tipping and people using residential bins inappropriately. The new cameras will deter people from committing environmental crime and will catch those who won’t be deterred.
“As a Council, we are committed to improving community safety and tackling environmental crime, and will take action to protect our communities. We are keen to do this through education and encouraging people to act responsibly but won’t shy away for enforcement action.”
