As of Monday the 1st of October 2018, Chief Inspector Derek Frew has been appointed as the new local Area Commander for South Ayrshire Police, replacing Chief Inspector Gary I`Anson who has taken up an exciting role as part of the team developing Police Scotland's new ‘Contact Assessment Model’.
Chief Inspector Derek Frew joined the police service in 1995 and has 23 years of experience. He has served our communities across Ayrshire, most notably in Millport and as a Constable and response Inspector in South Ayrshire. In recent years he worked on national policing reform and been part of the Corporate Communications department. Prior to taking up his new post he worked for the Scottish Multi-Agency Resilience, Training and Exercise Unit.
He has recently worked closely with Glasgow Prestwick Airport for mutli-agency training and exercise activity and supported the operational command response to President Trumps visit.
Chief Inspector Frew commented “I am delighted to be given this opportunity to lead South Ayrshire. It is an area I know well from a professional and personal perspective and I am privileged to be back working in the area".
