With STV now broadcasting from the UWS Ayr Campus, this exciting new Summer School offers participants the chance to develop their creative and production skills in the TV studios and newsroom at the University of the West of Scotland’s £81 million Ayr Campus. Covering aspects of digital news gathering, mobile journalism, studio TV production and creative filmmaking, and using industry standard equipment, the one-week course is ideal for anyone at the beginning of learning about television production, whether for fun or as the start of a professional journey. With £30 million investment for programme making announced for the new BBC in Scotland channel launching in 2018, and a plan to recruit 80 new journalists, there has never been a better time for all ages to connect to the growing opportunities in the screen industries in the West of Scotland. Professor Nick Higgins, Director of the Creative Media Academy says ‘We’re really thrilled to be offering people in the West of Scotland the chance to develop their skills in television production at this exciting time. It’s a unique opportunity for people in Ayrshire and beyond, and a great way to spend a creative and productive week this summer.’ Participants will have the opportunity to learn news reporting techniques, make a short film and work as a member of a studio production team to develop and record programme content for live broadcast. The Summer School takes place in the University’s riverside woodland campus in the bustling seaside town of Ayr. With en-suite accommodation in the University residences, just minutes from the campus available at additional cost and excellent transport links from Glasgow and beyond, A Taste of TV is a chance to take a real creative break this Summer.
