Official re-opening of Cheviot Court after £3.5m refurb

The upgraded sheltered housing accommodation has officially been re-opened at Cheviot Court in Irvine. The sheltered housing complex has been completely transformed for its residents.

Provost Anthea Dickson today celebrated the official opening of the new-look homes which have undergone a £3.5m modernisation.

The transformation saw a complete external and internal overhaul of 22 properties, delivered by contractor Redpath Construction Ltd.

“The refurbishment is part of a wider £40m programme to upgrade eleven sheltered housing complexes across North Ayrshire.

“I’m delighted to see the work being completed which benefits both the residents and the wider regeneration of the area.

“The homes were designed with the needs of our older residents in mind, taking into account simple measures such as kitchen finishes, flooring and fittings which contrast to improve visibility utilising dementia-friendly design principles.

“I would like to say thank you to all the tenants for their support and patience during the works.”

The modernisation works were delivered by Redpath Construction Ltd on behalf of the Council. Works included:

• New roof and new solar PV panels installed

• New external insulated render and cladding installed

• New windows and doors installed

• Additional parking bays created

• A new bin store and drying areas created

• New kitchens and wet floor shower rooms in each property

• A full upgrade of the heating and electrical systems, including the fire alarm and alert systems

• All communal areas upgraded and a new scooter store and visiting services room created
