SHEEP WORRYING - DOG OWNERS REMINDED TO CONTROL PETS
Officers in Ayrshire are appealing to dog owners to ensure that their pets are kept under control following a recent sheep worrying incident in the Cumnock area.
East Ayrshire Community Policing Inspector Christine Boyd said;
“At this time of year sheep grazing in fields can be expectant mothers. The mere presence of a dog running off of the lead can cause them to abort their pregnancy or go into early labour which can have devastating effects on the animals.
“We are reminding all dog owners of the requirement to ensure dogs are properly controlled and to follow the Scottish Outdoor Access Code which advises that dogs shouldn’t be taken into fields where there are lambs, calves or other young farm animals.
“We treat all instances of livestock worrying seriously, ensuring all reported cases are thoroughly investigated and offenders reported to the Procurator Fiscal.”
