Officers on patrol in Kilmarnock last night (Thursday 11th January 2018) provided an escort to the occupants of a vehicle travelling to hospital ahead of a special delivery.
PCs Boyd and Paterson spoke with the occupants of the vehicle and quickly established mother to be, Lynne, was in the final stages of labour and under considerable stress.
Officers provided an escort for the family to Ayrshire Maternity Unit and ensured their safe arrival before Lynne delivered a healthy baby girl, weighing 6lb 11oz, at 7.50pm.
Earlier today PC Boyd attended at the Maternity Unit to check mother and baby were doing well. PC Boyd was lucky to be invited by mum Lynne to meet the little baby girl. Baby was delivered 2 weeks early and the family have not settled on her name as yet.
PC Boyd said: “They say no two days are the same in policing and this incident proves it. We routinely stop vehicles for a variety of reasons including routine document checks - you never know what to expect and this certainly was a surprise.
“It is amazing that a routine incident can lead to helping someone welcome the miracle of a new arrival to their family.
“It was fantastic to be given the opportunity to meet the family again and learn that both mum Lynne and her beautiful baby are doing well. We wish them well for the future.”
