A member of the Hydro Health Club at Seamill Hydro has raised more than £1,500 for charity after completing a deeply personal fitness challenge.

Wendy Spencer successfully raised £1,503 for the British Heart Foundation after taking on her “Heartversary 26/26” challenge throughout the month of March. The initiative saw her walk and swim a combined total of 26 miles in recognition of two significant milestones within her family.
The challenge marked 10 years since her daughter Alice underwent life-saving surgery to repair two holes in her heart, as well as 16 years since her partner David had valve replacement surgery. Together, the milestones total 26 years of post-surgical recovery, which inspired the name and distance of the challenge.

Speaking about her efforts, Wendy explained that she aimed to split the distance evenly by swimming 13 miles and walking the remaining 13. She noted that each mile in the pool equated to 101 lengths, adding to the scale of the physical effort involved.
Her fundraising effort has been praised by Seamill Hydro, with staff and fellow members recognising both the physical achievement and the meaningful motivation behind it.
Donations in support of Wendy’s challenge remain open, with funds going towards the ongoing work of the British Heart Foundation.
