Airborne Pyrotechnics are set to make a sparkling return to The International Ayr Show – Festival of Flight this September, with organisers confirming the popular display team for this year’s line-up.

The father-and-son duo, Tim and Tom Dews, will perform across both days of the event for the third year in a row. On the evening of Friday 5 September, their motor gliders will light up the night sky with dazzling LED effects and wingtip pyrotechnics. Then, on Saturday 6 September, they’ll take to the air again for a daytime spectacle, swapping fireworks for colourful smoke trails as they carve elegant patterns above the Ayr shoreline.

The pair fly Grob 109b motor gliders – lightweight, strong, and made from advanced composite materials. Known as superefficient hybrids, the aircraft combine the qualities of a powered plane with the graceful performance of a glider.

Councillor Brian Connolly, Leader of South Ayrshire Council, said: “With yet another strong addition to the flying display schedule for The International Ayr Show – Festival of Flight, I’m sure excitement will be building amongst aviation enthusiasts ahead of the event. Airborne Pyrotechnics have put on a great show the last two years, and it will be a pleasure to have them back for a third!”

Councillor Alec Clark, Depute Leader of South Ayrshire Council and Portfolio Holder for Tourism, Culture and Rural Affairs, added: “Given the popularity of their displays in previous years, I’m sure festival-goers will be excited to see the return of Airborne Pyrotechnics to the skies over Ayr shorefront. It’s fantastic that we’ve been able to secure this wonderful display team for both days of our airshow.”

Dr Geoff Coxon, CEO of theSKYLAB, said: “How could we not invite Tim and Tom back for a third year? They were so popular with everyone and they make such a superb and fitting end to our Friday evening. Who could forget the scene last year with the gorgeous sunset over Arran and the pyrotechnics lighting up the skies? It was simply breath-taking.”

The International Ayr Show – Festival of Flight takes place on Friday 5 and Saturday 6 September 2025 at Ayr Shorefront. Alongside the aerial displays, visitors can enjoy a packed Festival Village on Ayr’s Low Green, offering family-friendly entertainment and attractions throughout the weekend.
