South Ayrshire's unsung heroes have been officially recognised at the Outstanding People Awards (TOPA) 2016. 190 people attended the annual awards ceremony, hosted by South Ayrshire Council, which took place at Ayr Racecourse on Thursday November 17.
Among the winners this year: the team working behind the scenes at The Open, the community group that created the magical Fullarton Fairy Trail, enthusiastic litter pickers at the Scottish International Airshow, as well as a project for the festive season where Council staff dug deep to donate handpicked gifts on Christmas Day.
This year the awards, which recognise exceptional service and contributions to the community, drew a record number of nominations with more than 160 people put forward from across the Council and the wider community. The winners of the 12 main categories were drawn from the final shortlist of 38 nominated people, teams, and organisations, with a further team named for the Chief Executive's Award.
Eileen Howat, Chief Executive at South Ayrshire Council, said, "TOPA has gone from strength-to-strength over the years, with nominations from both inside the Council and from the public up by more than a third in 2016.
"What everyone involved has in common is their tireless work to make sure that communities get the best possible results, with their efforts acting as an inspiration to friends and colleagues across South Ayrshire.
"It's humbling to see the commitment of people to go above and beyond the call of duty to make sure make sure a job's done perfectly, and I'd like to thank everyone involved in this year's Outstanding People Awards, without you none of this would be possible."
