Statement issued on new build proposal for Netherthird Primary School

The Council has today (25 October 2017) committed to a new school build to replace Netherthird Primary School.

Work to fully repair and refurbish the current school would not offer the long-term quality and breadth of educational experience the Council wants for all young people in the area and the new build school is now considered the best and most viable option to deliver primary education in the area.

The £1.9 million earmarked for refurbishment of the school in 2016, will now be transferred to the funding required for the new build as part of the Capital Investment Programme.

Engagement on the design proposals – and the implications for pupils currently decanted in other schools – will include parents, pupils, staff and the local community, with opportunities to participate in this process to be publicised widely as the programme of work is developed.
