In a heartfelt statement shared on Tarbolton Pharmacy’s Facebook page, pharmacist Richard said it was “with a heavy heart” that he had decided it was time to hang up his white coat after 20 years.

“It has been an absolute privilege and my life’s work to serve you all over the years and I take with me so many special memories and moments which I will never forget,” he wrote.

Richard thanked residents for their support and trust, adding: “Thank you all for welcoming this young pharmacist into your community and the trust you placed in me to help care for you all.”

He confirmed that a new pharmacist, Sam, will take over, describing him as “a young, enthusiastic pharmacist” who will continue the good work the team has always strived to provide.

While Richard will be stepping away, he noted that the “talented girls” in the team will remain and joked that they will soon “have Sam whipped into shape.”

He concluded by saying he hopes to say his goodbyes in person, adding, “I hope it will be more of a ‘see you later’ as I hope our paths cross in the near future.”

The announcement has prompted a flood of messages from grateful residents.

Jen commented:

“The glue that held Tarbolton together through Covid and the demise of the surgery. I hope Sam knows he has big shoes to fill. A personal thank you from my dad — I know he would have been gutted. All the best in your retirement!”

Jeannie added:

“You will be missed, Richard. You did well by this community and always supported village events. Good luck to you in your future endeavours.”
