Temporary closure of Western Road recycling depot for 7 weeks!

On Monday 9 April, the Western Road recycling depot in Kilmarnock will close for seven weeks.

This temporary closure is necessary to ensure public safety while we progress with essential works required for the upgrade and improvement of our recycling facilities.

The improvement programme will provide easier access to the site for users, a new entrance gate will improve the flow of traffic around the site and there will be better facilities for employees.

Extended hours will operate at Western Road prior to the closure. From Wednesday 28 March, the depot will open from 8am – 5.50pm except on Thursday 29 March, Monday 2 April and Thursday 5 April when the opening hours will be extended to 8am – 7.50pm.

Our waste management site at Garlaff, Skares, KA18 2RB will have extended opening hours during the closure period. From Monday 9 April, Garlaff will be open daily from 8am – 6pm.

For the duration of the closure, the Waste Management Services helpline – 01563 554033 will be operating daily, providing advice and support to our communities who have exceptional waste uplift requirements and who live within the Kilmarnock area.

Residents within the KA1, KA2, KA3 and KA4 (Stewarton Valley, Irvine Valley and Kilmarnock) postcode areas can also leave an additional three residual waste bags on their normal green bin waste collection day for the duration of the closure period.

Garden waste collections have now restarted and your garden waste (brown) bin will be collected every four weeks. If you do not have a brown bin or have additional garden waste, please request biodegradable sacks from Waste Management Services and leave filled sacks kerbside on your brown bin collection day.

We apologise for any disruption and any inconvenience these essential works may cause, and thank you for your patience as we work to upgrade our recycling provision and fulfil our recycling obligations as part of Scotland’s Household Charter for Recycling.

Keep updated on all things local
