The key to success as Fenwick Primary extension is unlocked

First day back at school was extra exciting for Fenwick Primary staff and pupils, as they moved into their newly extended building. Complete with two new classrooms, new toilets, staff room, office and reception, the £980k school makeover also included the building of a new gym/assembly hall, store and kitchen.

Councillor Gordon Jenkins, Cabinet Member for Management and Resources, East Ayrshire Council was there to handover the keys to delighted Head Teacher Keira Finlayson and her pupils.

He said: “Fenwick Primary started as a simple two-room building over 140 years ago, and over the years it has done a sterling job of educating the village youngsters.

Those two rooms, at the roadside end of the building are still in use, but it has expanded and changed since those days. It’s great to see this latest extension open, giving staff and pupils some much needed extra space, enabling them to give and receive the best of educational opportunities, in up-to-date surroundings, while retaining the history and ethos which has made Fenwick Primary a great starting ground for countless young people over the generations.

“Fenwick is just one of many of our schools which have undergone transformations, extensions and complete new builds in East Ayrshire in recent years. It’s all about ensuring our young people have the best possible start in life, with high quality learning delivered in buildings which are fit for purpose in the 21st century.”
