At the High Court in Glasgow on Friday 4 May 2018, Lynette Greenop was found guilty of the murder of her sister, Sharon.
On Thursday 10 November 2016, police were called to a property in Aldersyde Avenue in Troon and found the body of 46 year-old Sharon Greenop within the house.
The senior investigating officer, Detective Chief Inspector Martin Fergus, said:
“This was a complex inquiry. From the initial call to police, detectives worked to establish the circumstances surrounding Sharon’s death. A significant amount of forensic work was carried out and officers established that she had been subjected to a significant amount of violence prior to her death. As a result of the evidence gathered, her sister Lynette was arrested.
“This was a sickening and senseless murder of a vulnerable woman within her own home by her sister.
"Her death shocked the local community and Lynette’s actions have left other members of the family absolutely devastated. Understandably, this has been an incredibly difficult time for other members of Sharon’s family. Our thoughts remain with the family who have shown great dignity and strength throughout this tragedy.
“Finally, I would like to thank all those who assisted Police Scotland with our inquiries throughout this investigation, and I would also like to thank the team of detectives who worked on this complex and challenging inquiry.”
