There was a buzz of optimism and renewed energy at Ayrshire Cancer Support’s new drop-in centre this week, as our editor and ambassador, Euan Ruddick, was warmly welcomed for a special tour led by the charity’s newly appointed Chief Executive, Karen.

Karen, who stepped into the role in June, brings with her a dynamic leadership style honed over nearly 25 years in the voluntary sector.

Her arrival signals a bold new era for the charity, which continues to provide vital care and comfort to individuals and families across Ayrshire affected by cancer.

During the visit, Euan was shown the newly refurbished spaces designed to offer a safe, welcoming environment for clients seeking support. From counselling rooms to quiet reflection areas, every corner of the centre reflects the charity’s deeply personal approach to care.

Karen spoke passionately about her new role and the values that guide the organisation’s work:

“Ayrshire Cancer Support is more than just a service—it’s a lifeline for many people. I’ve been so inspired by the commitment and compassion of our team and volunteers. Everything we do is centred around the needs of our clients and their loved ones. That’s what makes this organisation so special.”

She added,

“I’m thrilled to join ACS at such an exciting time. The culture here is built on creativity, empathy, and real partnership working.

It’s a privilege to be part of something that is making such a meaningful difference in people’s lives across Ayrshire.”

As an ambassador for Ayrshire Cancer Support, Euan described the visit as both humbling and uplifting:

“The work being done here is truly life-changing. Meeting Karen and the team reaffirmed just how important this charity is for our community. With Karen at the helm, I have no doubt the future is bright for ACS.”

Karen’s appointment comes as Ayrshire Cancer Support continues to expand its services and reach more people facing the challenges of a cancer diagnosis.

Her experience in building strong community partnerships and leading impactful initiatives will be key as the charity navigates the road ahead.

The whole team at Ayrshire Cancer Support and all of us at Ayrshire Daily News, extend a heartfelt welcome to Karen as she embarks on this important chapter.
