WHITE RIBBON CAMPAIGN – 16 DAYS OF ACTION

Police across Ayrshire are working with partners and communities to promote the White Ribbon - 16 days of action campaign.

This annual campaign is part of the international movement designed to highlight and eradicate domestic abuse and violence against women. Chief Inspector Brian Shaw, Area Commander in North Ayrshire, joined colleagues and partners including North Ayrshire Council to launch the campaign which will run to Saturday 9th December 2017. Local officers will be involved in a wide range of activities with partners, young people and communities and over the course of the 16 days we will feature some of these activities on our social media accounts. Later today (Friday 24th November) Chief Superintendent Paul Main, Divisional Commander for Ayrshire, will open a Pan-Ayrshire conference in Irvine which is focused on raising awareness of the crime of stalking, it’s effects, implications and support services for victims. During the 16 days of action local residents will have an opportunity to sign a pledge in support of the eradication of gender based violence at events in each of the 6 North Ayrshire Localities. On Thursday 7th December Police will be supporting the ‘Reclaim the Night’ walk, which raises awareness about the dangers to women and girls from sexual violence and promotes a safer environment for women and girls to walk without fear after dark. The walk starts at 5:30pm at the Harbour Arts Centre, Irvine and finishes outside the Trinity Church, Bridgegate at about 6pm. Chief Inspector Shaw commented “We are proud to promote and support this campaign. “Violence against any person is inexcusable and will not be tolerated and it is vital that we work alongside our partners to reduce violence and support victims.” Further information about the campaign and information on local events can be found at: http://www.whiteribbonscotland.org.uk/ http://www.northayrshire.community/2017/11/06/reclaim-the-night/
