Woman dies after being pulled from the water near Stevenston

CALLOUT

At 4.15pm on Tuesday 21 April 2020, Belfast Coastguard requested the launch of Troon RNLI all-weather and inshore lifeboat following reports of a person in the water between Stevenston and Saltcoats.

Trent class all-weather lifeboat ‘RNLB Jim Moffat’ was then launched with its volunteer crew while D class inshore lifeboat ‘Sheena’ was taken to the scene by road using the stations Land Rover. Also tasked were Ardrossan, Largs and Ayr Coastguard Rescue Teams, the Coastguard Search and Rescue helicopter Rescue 199 from Prestwick and officers from Police Scotland.

As the lifeboats commenced a search, the Coastguard helicopter Rescue 199 located a casualty in the water that was quickly winched onto the helicopter. The casualty was then taken directly to Crosshouse hospital.

With no further casualties reported, the lifeboats returned to Troon where they were made ‘ready for service’ with assistance of the shore crew.

Sadly Police later confirmed that the casualty, a 43 year old woman, had died.

Our thoughts are with her family at this time.
