Tributes Flowing in For Popular Ayr Midwife Sister Cooper Who Has Sadly Passed Away Aged 76

Tributes have been flowing in for an Ayr popular Midwife Sister Anne Cooper who has sadly passed away aged 76.

Sister Cooper was a popular woman at the old Thornyflat Hospital before becoming a practice nurse at Cathcart St medical practice.

Anne's Sister Caroline contacted Ayrshire Daily News and provided us with the following information below:

Anne was a midwife at Thornyflat hospital in the 70s delivering many of the Ayrshire babies. It was a unique very personal hospital and even a nurse who cared for Mum in the last few weeks had been a Thornyflat baby. She later became the practice nurse at Cathcart Street Surgery for over 15 years where she was well known and loved by the patients and her colleagues. Sister Cooper was known for her straight talking no nonsense approach and was well known for her “you’ll be fine” saying. She remembered all her patients and would never walk by them in the street quite often taking ages to get from one end of the high street to another. She was full of fun and had an amazing energy for life. She was a well known figure within Ayr. She was a keen curler and loved to ski. Her family and friends were her focus and she had 3 adorable grandchildren which she spent lots of time with. She fought a tough battle as anyone who knew her can imagine, challenged by a disease that affected her mobility. Sister Cooper sadly lost her battle and peacefully passed away beside her family at home as she had wished. She leaves behind her loving husband Robert who was by her side through her challenging illness. Her son and daughter Derek and Caroline and grandchildren Lauren, Khalan and Chloe. She will be sorely missed by them and all her precious friends. Her private funeral will be held on 17th June however on her final journey she will pass Cathcart Street surgery at 1200 that day should you wish to pay your respects to a wonderful caring member of our community.
