Two people and six dogs rescued from beach in Stevenston

MULTI-AGENCY OPERATION WITH TWO PEOPLE AND SIX DOGS RESCUED

The Ardrossan Coastguard Rescue Team was called out shortly before 11pm yesterday evening to reports of two persons stranded on Stevenston Beach.

The team responded immediately along with Ayr Coastguard Rescue Team, Troon Lifeboat, Ayrshire Police Division, Scottish Fire & Rescue Service and the Scottish Ambulance Service.

Arriving on scene, further information was received advising the casualties were stranded on the beach in a vehicle approximately 1.5 miles south of Stevenston Point.

The Coastguard Rescue Teams from Ardrossan and Ayr utilised their 4x4 capability to reach the casualties who were found in their vehicle along with six dogs having become stuck in the sand and unable to recover their vehicle.

The two casualties were reluctant to leave their vehicle however eventually came round to the realisation that their vehicle was stranded and would require specialist recovery during daylight hours.

The Coastguard Rescue Vehicles have thereafter successfully recovered both casualties and the dogs to the safety of the car park at Stevenston Point where they were left with our emergency service colleagues.

With all persons now safe and well and arrangements being made for the vehicle to be recovered during daylight hours, the team has stood down and returned to station to clean and repack the vehicle ready for service and complete the necessary paperwork before booking off duty shortly after 1am.

We would always urge caution when considering taking vehicles onto beaches or coastal routes and to ensure vehicles are suitable for the terrain, check the weather and tide times before setting off and to make sure it's safe and legal to do so.

The Ardrossan Coastguard Rescue Team is on call 24 hours a day, 365 days a year to respond to those in need at the coast and beyond.

Search and Rescue - it's what we do.
