Police are appealing for information after a 62-year-old man was seriously injured after being assaulted by two other men in Ayr last night, Sunday, 8, September 2019.
Around 7.30 pm, the man was walking in the vicinity of River Street and the Bridges in the town centre when he was attacked.
He was taken to Ayr Hospital where he is receiving treatment for a head injury. His condition is described by hospital medical staff as being stable.
The men responsible are described as wearing dark clothing. One of them was possibly wearing a baseball cap and carrying a crutch or a walking stick.
Detective Inspector Alan Paterson, the officer in charge of the enquiry, said:
"I believe the man who was assaulted had been in a nearby public house before he was attacked. I am appealing for anyone who was in the area at the time and who may have witnessed the incident to get in touch. Anyone who may have been driving past and captured anything relevant on a dashcam should also contact Police Scotland."
