A thousand thanks from Ayrshire Hospice after Burns Supper fundraiser

Generous Burns fans have dug deep to help raise £1,000 for the Ayrshire Hospice. The money came from donations at the South Ayrshire Councillors' Annual Charity Burns Supper 2016, which took place at County Buildings earlier this year.

Every year the event celebrates the life and works of the Bard while promoting Scottish culture and heritage. Each person attending was able to nominate a charity of their choice for the proceeds from the event to go to.

One person was chosen at random to name their charity, and on this occasion it was Robert Graham, who nominated the proceeds of £1,000 to go to the Ayrshire Hospice.

Councillor Sandra Goldie said this year's donations would be put to good use, "I'd like to thank everyone involved for digging deep on the night. Together we've more than doubled the amount raised last year.

"This annual event has become a popular fixture in the local calendar and I hope the money raised will go some way to helping families who depend on the professional services the Ayrshire Hospice provides.

Robert Flynn, Fundraising Officer at the Ayrshire Hospice said "We are always indebted to community fundraisers like South Ayrshire Council who give their time, energy and commitment to support the work of the hospice.

"We would like to thank all those who attended and supported the Burns Supper for their fantastic fundraising efforts."

£1,000 could help the hospice to pay for:

• Six shifts by a care assistant

• 70 hours of at-home support from the Ayrshire Hospice Respite & Response team

• A syringe driver to help with pain management
