Ayr Primary School gets 'Chilling' bomb threat call

Ayrshire Division can confirm that Doonfoot Primary school in South Ayrshire was affected by a hoax call this morning.

Police, the Headteacher and staff from the school responded swiftly even although the early assessment was that the call was a hoax.

The children were evacuated and taken to nearby Greenan Shore where they remained for a short period of time.

A search was carried out by emergency services as a precautionary measure only, prior to the children returning safely.

Doonfoot Primary school was one of a number of schools in Scotland affected this morning and a full and thorough investigation is underway to establish the full circumstances surrounding today's events and the alarm caused.

Douglas Hutchieson, Director of Education, South Ayrshire Council said - "Doonfoot Primary was one of a number of schools in Scotland to receive a threat via the telephone today.

“While there was no suggestion that this was a credible threat, the school was evacuated as a precaution and the children were taken to Greenan Shore where they were looked after by teachers and school staff.

“Colleagues from the emergency services completed a search of the school building and, as soon as it was declared safe, the children and staff returned to school.”
